Adios

I’ve been mulling something over for quite some time. Mulling. That is not something I do very often. I’m not even sure if I’m using it correctly, but I’ve been mulling. I mull it turns out. I'm not even sure if that's legal...

This blog has been one of the greatest things that I’ve ever decided to do. Miguel likes it because it has given him exposure that he didn’t have before. For me, it has been a place for me to write about my thoughts, feelings and daily observations. All done, from a Guatemalan perspective. Sorry, a mustached Guatemalan perspective. When most have to carry their thoughts in their mind and shoulders, I have had you all. This has truly been a gift.

My anonymity has been something that I have held near and dear. This has been good, because I have been able to write whatever I want without having someone attack me (verbally or physically). It’s also made it impossible for me to meet many of you. I never liked that.

I write this with tears in my eyes, but this is my last blog entry.

There are a million things that I want to write, but I can’t. They say everyone is on a journey. I just need to find mine.

Thank you for all the comments, e-mails and pictures over the years. You all are amazing.

Mucho Amor,

El Guapo

Darn you all to heck. Please don't go. Me encantan tus historias y aunque no soy Guatemalteca (soy una Puertorriqueña caderona y deliciosa)mi unico deseo es que¡Viva Guatemala! Well not really just your blog. ;) Yeah, just viva your blog. No te vayas por favor.

Oh no! I'm sorry I never commented much before, but I'm really going to miss your blogging! I swear I will comment every day if you decide to keep blogging - and I'm going to save the link and check it for awhile in case you do.

If this really is it though, best of luck to you. Thank you for all the enjoyment I got out of reading your blog.

I have never commented to a blog...ever. But, this I have to respond to...WHY? I used to live in D.C. and realy like being able to live there again thru your antics. I hope that you change your mind, and continue to make me laugh and remember my old stomping grounds.

At 1:18 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

EG, that really, really sucks. You've been a highlight of my daily routine for a long while and will be dearly missed. I think that part of the joy of this blog is that your readers feel connected to you, feel that they have been touched by your mind, which is an intelligent, amused, and lovingly cynical voice.

Grant us one boon: that, if and when you decide to return to writing, you'll somehow let us know. I feel like I'm losing a friend.

Vaya don D-os, amigo.

Adios.

Missed you before I found you and now you will be impossible to forget or replace. Several of your stories I read over and over - your writing is so eloquent, yet so simple. Thats a gift - thank you for sharing it with us.

I sensed a broken-ness in you lately so though shocked and sad like everyone else at your decison, I wish for you all the things you wish for yourself. The world feels a whole lot friendlier since I began reading you.

Thats the reasonable and mature response. The other part of me says .... come back, say you will...

At 1:14 PM, Blogger Velvet said...

Funny how everyone comes out of the woodwork to comment when you say you're not going to blog anymore, right?

At 1:17 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I, too, agree with the comments on here- the fact that you're leaving is quite the tragedy. I will miss your blog- of the three I regularly read, yours was the only one that did not make me question my intelligence, sanity, or pseudo-guatemaleca-ness.

Te voy a extrañar.

I concur with all the commenters here - you really are a gifted writer and a brilliant wit. Your writing has inspired me, especially last year when I was reeling from the end of a five-year relationship. I truly believe the ability to find humour is a sign of resilience - you'll be fine. Take care and please do not neglect your writing gift!

Good luck to you; may you find what you seek!

Ay dios mio!!! I will miss you.

I'm just piling on at this point, but I was also crushed to hear this news, El Guapo. I read your blog from Tokyo (I moved here three years ago from DC but didn't find your blog 'til I got to Japan!) and it always makes me smile, at minimum, and guffaw out loud routinely. And it always makes me miss DC.

Best of luck on whatever path you're taking, and I hope that path will someday soon lead you back to entertaining and sharing little peeks at your life with us!

Cheese warning: Thanks for the years of joy. I said it, JOY. You're talented. We'll miss you. I'm crying happy tears and sad tears all over my flan... wish I could give you a token of thanks (prepay your cable for a year or hire a pupusa truck to follow you around?)...

I was, however, looking forward to leaving you little BDSM-flavored comments now and then, to add a different flava to your already-spicy blog. ;)

You - I think I'd like to know you more than any blog author out of 50 and here you go disappearing.

Well, as a Jewish woman in DC, I hope that now I'll be able to actually meet you. Glad to see from the other replies that I'm not the only one looking around at the mustaches wondering which one might be yours.

I'm also hoping soon an unanonymous blog or website will pop up with that unmistakable el G flavor.

And then we can all drink some Manischewitz and then go salsa dancing together.

EG - Maybe you just need a long vacation....why not try writing just once every two weeks instead of as much as you do... If you decide to leave permently I want you to know that I will miss you so much...I wish you were my big brother...I hear more from you than from him. AND yes leave your blog up so we can come back to get our FIX... I am very sorry about tu Linda and I actually cried inside for you having been there. I know after a while another will come along. I know as I got another within time...Love you you EG Sussie aka: woozie281

El Guapo, It's been a while since I commented here but I have to say, I am going to miss you and all of your crazy stories. From one Guatemalan to another, que lastima. Te extranare y buena suerte. I hope you do come back some day, or, maybe Miguel will decide to blog himself.

...wait-- I forgot-- does this mean that maybe you are going to show yourself in some other way? "It’s also made it impossible for me to meet many of you. I never liked that."
